How we work

Performing is unlike any other profession. So is the therapy for it.

[ consultation · natural light ]

Performing is unlike any other profession. The audition room, the rejection, the intensity of a long run, the silence between contracts — the psychological demands are real, and they are specific. The Performer Clinic was founded by Julia Grieshofer, a psychologist and researcher who has spent years studying what resilience actually looks like for actors and performers. This is not generic therapy adapted for the arts. It is therapy designed from the ground up for the realities of a performance career.

i.

Someone who understands your world

You should not have to explain what an audition feels like. Julia works exclusively with performers — your experience is her starting point.

ii.

Evidence-based approaches that work

Julia uses MBT, CBT, and IPT, adapting the approach to what suits you. Her research shows that emotion regulation is at the heart of performer wellbeing.

iii.

Flexible, confidential, professional

Sessions online via Microsoft Teams and in person in London, at times that work around rehearsals and touring schedules.

Ways to work together

Four ways we can work together.

§ i.

Individual therapy

One-to-one psychotherapy tailored to you and your performance career. Drawing on MBT, CBT, and IPT — adapted to what suits you best. Online and in-person.

§ ii.

Workshops & training

Evidence-based resilience workshops for drama schools, conservatoires, theatre companies, and arts organisations. Psychoeducational — not therapy.

§ iii.

Online courses

Structured psychoeducational programmes — including The Resilient Performer, a 12-week programme built on original doctoral research into actor resilience.

§ iv.

Institutional consultancy

Consultation for producers, directors, and welfare leads seeking to improve performer wellbeing, develop policy, or support specific productions.
